A long-lasting career in nursing, made possible by THGSON
Andrew has been a registered nurse for the Allenmore Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for nearly a year, but he’s been part of the MultiCare family for much longer.
In 2008, he became a paramedic for the Allenmore emergency room (ER) where he developed a strong passion for emergency medicine. That passion led him to pursue a degree in nursing, with the goal of becoming an ER or ICU nurse.
“I wanted to be part of a patient’s care for more than just the first 30 minutes of their emergency,” he says. “I knew that becoming a nurse would allow me to make a positive impact in the lives of my patients.”
Andrew went back to school in 2014, but balancing full-time work and nursing school schedules proved to be a challenge. He had very little time to study in between shifts and the cost of tuition was daunting. It was Andrew’s wife Jenny, a nurse for MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, who suggested that he should apply to the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing (TGHSON) Endowment Fund.
Thanks to generous donations from TGHSON alumnae and members of the community, Andrew was awarded a scholarship and completed his nursing degree in 2016. He is forever grateful for the people behind the endowment that made his scholarship possible, and is excited to continue a patient-centered, long-lasting career with MultiCare.
