Helping Hands

The Helping Hands fund provides resources for patients in need throughout the entire MultiCare system. Your contribution to Helping Hands helps remove barriers that impact a patient's ability to heal or a family's ability to support their loved one. This fund is used to fill prescriptions, provide transportation to and from hospital visits, pay for clean clothing, hot meals and more.

More than 8,000 MultiCare patients and family members receive Helping Hand each year.

How Helping Hands heals: stories from MultiCare social workers

  • A career caregiver was diagnosed with breast cancer at 63. She was unable to work due to months of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. She drove herself to and from every appointment and began having car trouble. She was in financial distress. Helping Hands helped pay for her rent, copays and car repairs so she could continue with treatment. She is now in remission.

  • A young man with spina bifida uses a wheelchair and crutches. He also experiences homeless. When his crutches were stolen at a shelter, Helping Hands provided him with new clothing and crutches.

  • A long-haul truck driver from Wisconsin spent a month at Good Samaritan Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit with severe sepsis. He was not expected to live and his wife and daughter were able to pay for a flight to Washington but couldn’t afford the living expenses. Helping Hands provided meals, transportation and hotel accommodations so they could support their husband and father prior to returning to Wisconsin for his recovery.

  • In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), many premature babies are unable to safely ride in car seats. A specialty “flat bed” car seat is available for these babies and costs approximately $1,000. More than 80% of families in the NICU are at or below the poverty level and this flat car seat is rarely covered by insurance. Helping Hands helps purchase these car seats for families in need.
