The Mary Bridge Children’s Gender Health Clinic provides gender-affirming health care for gender-diverse children and adolescents. Staffed by licensed social workers, physicians, registered nurses and a dietician, the clinic supports every aspect of medical care. It also connects patients with providers who are committed to serving and supportive of gender diverse patients.
Clinic staff partner with community organizations that support LGBTQ youth, educate medical professionals on how to provide affirming care and help ensure that the hospital is a safe and respectful environment for all gender-diverse youth. The program has grown immensely since 2019 and now serves more than 300 youth.
Chest Dysphoria is a significant struggle for non-binary and/or transmasculine people of all ages. Roughly 75 percent of the clinic patients are non-binary and trans masculine, and chest binders are a gender-affirming piece of shapewear that can decrease chest dysphoria, improving mental health for these patients. Many families come into the clinic to discuss the medical questions surrounding binding and then move forward with a purchase. Unfortunately, not all families can access binders because of their cost.
This fundraiser will help the clinic establish a Binder Bank, address these medical questions around binding and ensure that patients have a binder that fits safely. The Binder Bank removes any financial barrier a family may have in obtaining this gender affirming shapewear so that non-binary and transmasculine youth have access to a medically safe binder, regardless of their family’s income.
